They’re back! What to eat at Del Monte Golf Clubhouse Bukidnon (menu inside)

Bukidnon, Business, Features, Food, Mindanaoan Update, Reviews, Tourism
The Del Monte Golf Clubhouse in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, Philippines is a golf club that is located within the vast Del Monte Pineapple Plantation. It was built in the 1950s and has served as a center of social and recreational activities for the employees and guests of Del Monte Philippines, Inc. During the pandemic, they operated but only offered takeouts. These days, they've reopened with fresher interiors and menu. Are you planning to visit this famed Bukidnon tourist spot? Read on and don't forget to share this with your friends, family and colleagues! My family and I often visit this place before the pandemic. We often ordered the delicious and generously portioned steaks (which are infamous for being derived from pineapple-fed cattle). This time, however, my Mom and I or...

Schedule: Kaamulan Festival 2023 in Bukidnon (only authentic ethnic fest in the Philippines)

Bukidnon, Events, Features, Festivals, Malaybalay City, Mindanaoan Update, Tourism
Kaamulan Festival is the annual gathering of the Province of Bukidnon's 7 hill tribes. A former Tourism Secretary called it the only authentic ethnic festival in the Philippines and I must say, there's nothing like it! It's colorful, vibrant, loud, warm, heartwarming and just full of energy, culture and tradition. This year, the Kaamulan Festival 2023 is happening! The Bukidnon festival was suspended for 2 years during the pandemic. The Kaamulan Festival 2022 happened but it was toned down to just a few events. Hopefully, this Kaamulan 2023, the festivities will be back in full force and everyone can really feel the vibrancy of this amazing ethnic festival. The Kaamulan Festival is a yearly gathering of the Talaandig, Tigwahanun, Higaonon, Manolo, Matigsalug, Umayamnun and Bukidno...

There will be live cooking demos of budget-friendly and healthy meals.  A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey published in December 2020 indicated that the average hunger rate for 2020 in the Philippines is double the average of 9.3 percent for 2019. ABS-CBN’s Himig 11th Edition winning song Marupok delivered empowering lyrics and performer KZ Tandingan’s great musicality, which blended beautifully with Filipino ethnic music. And behind this refreshing song is composer Daniella Anne Balagtas, who received a brand-new house and lot from Lumina Homes, as part of the competition’s grand plum. Lumina Homes is one with the annual songwriting contest in celebrating OPM Music as well as supporting composers, singers and all the music artists who are affected by the pandemic. Bukidnon, Business, Cagayan de Oro City, Consumer, Features, Food, Iligan City, Mindanaoan Update, Misamis Oriental, Restaurant, Reviews
Allow me to share with you one of my recent favorite food finds - the Panagatan Restaurant bilao treat! I'm referring to the Panagatan Restaurant Bilao D offer in particular. For only Php 950 (less than US $20), you get this whole shebang - grilled tuna belly, calamares, crispy shrimps and seafood kebabs! This was more than enough for my small party of 3 :) The tuna belly was grilled perfectly (the fish was tender and juicy), the calamares rings were not gummy at all (if they are, then that means they're overcooked!) and the crispy shrimps serving was generous. Delicious and truly value for money! Highly recommended! We also capped our meal with the bestselling Panagatan Restaurant Buko Halo halo! So good! This one is a must-order! We were also given a compliment...

Zubiri to IATF: Stricter COVID measures needed in Northern Mindanao

Bukidnon, Government, Mindanaoan Update
Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri has expressed alarm and concern over the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Northern Mindanao, and is calling on the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for their help in controlling the situation. Zubiri, a resident of Northern Mindanao, said that 2 weeks ago, the regional IATF already reported a 300 percent rise in cases in Lanao del Norte. "And this weekend, CDO reported that their numbers have risen to 962, from just 100-plus in March. In Bukidnon, our medical frontliners are struggling to deal with the sudden surge of COVID-19 patients," the solon said. “Our hospitals are already filling up. I know that Bukidnon Provincial Medical Hospital (BPMH) is full, along with some of our private hospitals. And Northern Mindanao Medical Center...

Overlooking Mangima zigzag “bitukang manok” Manolo Fortich Mindanao

Bukidnon, Cafe, Features, Food, Mindanaoan Update, Travel
It was a beautiful Sunday - a great day for a drive. I've always been curious of this grill restaurant that sits atop Mangima zigzag road also known as the "bitukang manok" in Mindanao so off we went to check out Maena's Grill. You can't miss it. If you're driving towards Cagayan de Oro City, traversing Sayre Highway, and you're about to survive Mangima road, Maena's Grill is on your left. Just a few meters away from the last curve. Now if you're driving from Manolo Fortich, it'll be on your right and just a few meters away from where you'll first descend towards Mangima zigzag. They serve lechon kawali, grilled tuna, pansit canton, pares, bulalo, nilaga and pasta dishes. I didn't get to scan their entire menu. We were there for the view. And it was a nice one. We could see the vehi...

I may be an avid beach lover but sometimes, there's just something about the countryside that we all can't help but love. Laidback. Lovely gentle breeze. Beautiful trees. Glorious landscape. Clean air. Take the case of the Municipality of Lantapan in Bukidnon. Roughly a 3-hour drive from Cagayan de Oro, it's fast becoming home to many quaint cafes and diners like Cafe Sa Bukid, Chukoohills and now, El Paso. Located at Songco, Lantapan, El Paso is a rustic restaurant that also has a spacious al fresco area. And by al fresco I do mean tables and chairs/benches (and tents when it's a rainy day) surrounded by lots of tall falcata trees. There's also an event stage and a bonfire area. It's a great place to hang out with family and friends. I made a quick TikTok video of our most rec...

Dahilayan Forest Park, the property beside Dahilayan Adventure Park (where the popular Zipzone is a.k.a. Asia's longest dual cable zipline) and where I also experienced the 8-storey platform base jump, offers ATV rides or buggy rides. Have you been on one? I absolutely enjoy riding ATVs! I also have a little confession to make - I'm a bit of a speed junkie so I like driving ATVs pretty fast! Although my most recent buggy adventure was a chill one since I was with my cousins and it was their first time driving ATVs. Here's a video I made during our Dahilayan ATV adventure. Check out the trail here: https://youtu.be/h2uTObv2M5o Dahilayan Forest Park offers other amenities and services such as picnic grounds, ponds and lagoons, forest animals playground and rides (luge, t...

Real good Japanese food in Bukidnon

Bukidnon, Food, Malaybalay City, Mindanaoan Update, Reviews
I first wrote about them nearly 2 years ago, back when they still had a different name, and when I was on a quick vacation from New York. These days, they're now known as Ukyo Ramen and they're one of my super favorite restaurants in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. New name but definitely still superb quality, delicious Japanese food! Actually, it isn't just their name that changed. Their look, too! From a home-turned-into-rustic-eatery, Ukyo Ramen now sports a spanking brand new look, complete with banners with Japanese characters and all that jazz. But, yes, as I earlier mentioned, they still serve the same delicious Japanese fare - and I daresay it's even better (if that's even possible)! During my most recent visit, I brought along a friend, who happily agreed that, yes, Virginia...

I’m sure you’ll agree with me when I say that one of the sad, challenging repercussions of this global health pandemic was that we can’t easily, freely travel and see our family and friends. We had no choice but to be contented with virtual “kamustahans.” Siyempre, it’s still different to physically be with your loved ones, to bond with them and strengthen family ties.  So when the travel restrictions started to get eased out, I hatched a plan: to reunite my Mama with her older sister whom she hasn’t seen in more than a year!  Thankfully, I had a reliable partner in Ford Philippines. They gave me the chance to drive the all-new Ford Territory, currently the most celebrated vehicle in the compact crossover segment. My plan for a beautiful reunion between sisters was off to a great st...

How you can support rainforestation and combat adverse effects of natural hazards, climate change

Advocacy, Bukidnon, Corporate, Features, Internet, Mindanaoan Update, Technology
The location of the Philippines in the Pacific has always made the country vulnerable to strong typhoons. About 20 typhoons pass through the Philippine Area of Responsibility annually, about 8-to-9 of which make landfall. However, over the past years, climate change has brought more violent storms to the country, causing severe damage to lives and properties. While resilient infrastructure and disaster preparedness are important during severe weather conditions, nature-based solutions such as rainforestation and watershed conservation also play a vital role in mitigating the adverse effects of these natural phenomena. The Philippines continues to experience the rapid decrease of its primary rainforests from 70% forest cover in the 1990s to only less than 1.8% to date. This rate of e...

Mindanao-based Hineleban Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit organization in Bukidnon, is urging corporations to support Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities to not only help secure food and water for them but to also help restore the last virgin forests and ample river flow requirements of all water users in the country. Hineleban’s vision is to ensure the nation’s water, food and human security by reforesting the mountain ranges of Mindanao. These ranges are inhabited by the IP communities. On their official website, Hineleban Foundation explained that by supporting IPs through food security, followed by sustainable livelihood and finally, reforestation, they also play a more active role in the protection of the remaining primary forests in the Philippines. Currently, Hinele...

So I just had a realization. After taking the Ford Ranger Raptor for a spin a few weeks ago, I realized that I LOVE driving pick-up trucks! The Ford Raptor, for instance, is huge but oh what a joy it is to drive! This love for pick-up vehicles was again solidified when I had a fun, wild week with the Ford Ranger Wildtrak (yasss)! Don’t you just love how versatile it looks? The Ford Ranger Wildtrak is a workhorse for sure (built for tough!) but you can also easily take it to easy breezy picnics, to the beach and to the mountains for memorable hang-outs with family and relatives at a cozy cabin (which I did!). Muscular yet feminine. Does that make sense?  I brought the Ford Ranger Wildtrak to so many places around Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon (Malaybalay City and Dahilayan...

Don’t you just miss bonding with family and friends, going on a road trip, savoring scenic views and delicious food, and just having a great time with those close to your heart? I’m sure this is something all of us miss and look forward to doing. Fortunately, I recently had the opportunity to see some of my friends (whom I haven’t seen since the onset of the pandemic!) and bond with my relatives. That meant driving to the city, to hinterlands, to a farm and to a newly-discovered (an accidental discovery brought about by a call from a dear friend whom I also haven’t seen in a darn long time) area that had a killer view! And so, aboard the Ford EcoSport Titanium, my weekend went off to a great start. My friends and I went to this new cafe uptown and then proceeded to Indah...

Day trip idea: Fortune Valley and Manalog Falls in Malaybalay, Bukidnon

Blogging, Bukidnon, Features, Malaybalay City, Mindanaoan Update, Tourism, Travel
During this pandemic, I've been spending more of my time in Bukidnon. This beautiful province is located in Central Mindanao and is recognized as the food basket of Mindanao. I love the absolutely chill vibe of this place and here, I can truly rest, read, do passion projects, do what I like and at the kind of pace I want. It also helps that the prices here are still way cheaper compared to those in the city. The closest city, by the way, is Cagayan de Oro. Anyway, I've been going on road trips as of late and now, my relatives and I are thinking of probably trekking or exploring the mountains and rivers. A Malaybalay resident by the name of Enrico Asentista inspired me to do a day trip in Malaybalay. I didn't even know about these two places! The good news is that these are just very ne...

In a previous blog post, I mentioned that I am in the market for a new vehicle and currently weighing options. Aside from budget, comfort level and features, I thought I also needed a vehicle that could fit my busy and adventure-filled lifestyle but can also be formal and practical, preferably one that didn’t really require further modifications.  See, I may be a girl but more often than not, I’m not that girly-girl, if you know what I mean. I have my happy-in-a-dress days but I have more makeup-free, slippers-only, super comfortable clothes on days. So, to me, that’s a challenge. Is there a vehicle out there for someone who loves to travel and conquer many adventures but who also loves to take the family, friends and loved ones for fun escapades, lead community projects, volu...
