As of this writing, Cagayan de Oro is now home to over 200 cafes. Can you imagine that? So many coffee shops to choose from! For the owners of these cafes, however, that means stiffer competition. So what do you do so you can stand out of the crowd? Here's one tried-and-tested way: make your menu really interesting and serve something out of the ordinary. Something that you know your customers might want to purchase again or at least talk about with their friends and loved ones! Take August Cafe, for instance. Let's face it. When people find out that a celebrity owns a certain business, people have the tendency to flock to it and patronize it. That means publicity, strong recall and of course, strong sales. Great! Unfortunately, this may also work the other way around especially if the products aren't good, the prices are way too expensive or if the business owners themselves don't exercise proper customer service. This time, in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, just across the Asia Brewery, Inc. El Salvador plant. It was a beautiful Sunday - a great day for a drive. I've always been curious of this grill restaurant that sits atop Mangima zigzag road also known as the "bitukang manok" in Mindanao so off we went to check out Maena's Grill. You can't miss it. If you're driving towards Cagayan de Oro City, traversing Sayre Highway, and you're about to survive Mangima road, Maena's Grill is on your left. Just a few meters away from the last curve. Now if you're driving from Manolo Fortich, it'll be on your right and just a few meters away from where you'll first descend towards Mangima zigzag. I think it was just a matter of time. After all, it sits on a verdant plateau between mountain ranges (so you know fo' sho' you see amazing views everywhere!), the weather is nice, life is chill and the people are cool and friendly. Before my flight from Cebu to New York, USA, my two brothers, mom and myself went to a cat cafe in Cebu City. It wasn't my first cat cafe experience, though. Along with my brother, who absolutely adores cats (I'm more of a dog person but I don't abhor cats or anything), I already visited a cat cafe in Korea (in the busy district of Hongdae, Seoul) and another one in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan - the Cat Cafe Calico Japan (which was accordingly one of the oldest and more popular ones in Tokyo). Missy Bon Bon CDO - I've written about them a couple of times but it looks like I won't be stopping anytime soon because they're constantly offering something new! It wasn't so long ago when Missy Bon Bon, a homegrown Cagayan de Oro brand that offers freshly made breads, cakes, desserts, their version of the well-loved Camiguin pasalubong pastel and even gelato, revamped their menu and started serving sexy breakfast choices. I’m back on Philippine shores! Taiwan was lovely and I can’t wait to share with you all my travel stories. In the meantime, let me share a really cool place I just discovered in Cebu City, where I took my flight to Taiwan from. It’s called Toast Cafe, it’s located at Cuarto Hotel near Fuente Circle, and it’s awesome. Toast Cafe is chic with its brick walls and wooden furniture yet homey with its chalkboards and friendly, attentive staff.
