About three weeks ago, I became a convert. A from-Windows-to-Mac convert, that is. Yes, people, this blogger in Mindanao finally made the big switch from using Windows to Mac! And so — meet my new toy — a spanking brand new Macbook

Buying a Macbook wasn’t an easy decision to make, mind you. Apart from the fact that learning how to use the new (and absolutely pretty white laptop – yes, I’m gushing
) and the Mac OS would take a bit of time (yes, I can be lazy), Macs aren’t exactly cheap. Macbook prices are nearly double the price of a Windows laptop. That’s why I canvassed for a few days and thanks to my Twitter and Plurk friends, I got great leads as to where you can buy cheap Macbooks in the Philippines.
I will share how I got a pretty good deal with my newest purchase in a separate post. In the meantime, I’m giving my desktops and Windows laptop their much-needed hiatus because my new Macbook will be my constant partner from now on. It will be my main gadget in blogging and in my business dealings.
Any ideas/suggestions as to what I should name/call my new find?

Thanks to Manila-based Twitter friend Ryan, this blogger from Mindanao got invited to check out the much-talked about Gelatissimo store in Greenbelt 5, Makati City, Philippines. It was an invitation that I immediately accepted especially because I’ve heard a lot of good feedback about this gelato shop.
By the way, Gelatissimo isn’t a homegrown brand. Gelatissimo is an Australian brand and they offer yummy gelato that’s made fresh every single day, sundaes, chocolates, traditional Italian biscotti and roasted coffee.
For the unitiated, gelato is a low fat, creamy alternative to traditional ice cream. It tastes a bit “warmer” than ice cream but nonetheless equally delish!
As expected, I found a packed Gelatissimo Greenbelt 5 branch. Believe me, the photo I took below didn’t do justice. There were A WHOLE LOT of people outside the gelato store!
One of the things that I absolutely liked at Gelatissimo is the way they presented the gelato choices. Check out the entire green tea box placed on top of the green tea-flavored gelato! And what about the two packs of Snickers right on top of the American Chocolate gelato?
Hello fellow Mindanawans! Planning a trip to CDO soon? Here’s a budget hotel in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao that you might be interested in.
Lamar Inn, located at the corner of JR Borja and Velez Streets (just a few blocks away from Divisoria, the heart of the city), is a downtown hotel that offers value for money. Conveniently located at the central business district of the City of Golden Friendship and owned and operated by VIP Hotel (which is located just right across the street), Lamar Inn CDO offers reasonably priced rooms and good amenities.
They have 14 tourist type rooms (P750.00 per night), 8 business type rooms (P850.00 per night) and two suites (P1,300.00 per night).
The business type room that we stayed in recently was air conditioned, had cable television, had a telephone and a hot beverage utility set.
Hence, it was easy for us to prepare coffee even in the middle of the night and early in the morning.
Our room also had hot and cold shower and a clean bathroom. We had clean towels and two bars of soap. No free shampoo but you can easily buy sachets from the reception desk. Bottled mineral water can also be bought at the reception area, by the way.
What I also liked about the business type room was the FREE wireless internet connection! On our first night of stay in Lamar Inn Cagayan de Oro, my wi-fi capable phone caught two wifi signals – Lamar’s and CGC (I reckon this stands for Canoy Group of Companies, the owners of Lamar Inn and yes, of VIP Hotel). I just asked for the security keys from the front desk and I was browsing the web in no time.
The hotel staff members were friendly, by the way, and they made sure that they kept our luggage safe (we had to leave our things for a few hours).

Singer Erik Santos was the special guest during the BPInoy Life Series event in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao last October 2, 2009. The BPInoy Life Series event, which was sponsored by Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), aimed to showcase the various services and products of BPI, Globe, Ayala Land and other partner agencies. Attendees of the event were mostly beneficiaries or recipients of foreign remittances (from Overseas Filipino Workers) or entrepreneurs who engaged in businesses that also dealt with foreign remittances.
Here’s a video Mindanaoan took of Erik Santos as he sang “This Is The Moment.” Watch out for the funny part where a guy shouts his “admiration” for Erik
