MINDANAO – I’m currently in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao and just got back from a pretty fruitful meeting with some of the members of the CDO Bloggers group.
Mindanaoan joined their regular officers’ meeting and pitched in some of my thoughts for the upcoming Mindanao Bloggers Summit 3, which will be held in Cagayan de Oro City come October 24, 2009. The meeting was held at one of the coffee shops here in the City of Golden Friendship.
I found the CDO Bloggers to be very friendly and warm. They also welcomed new ideas and suggestions. To all of you whom I met earlier – thank you for welcoming me into the fold
I look forward to working with you guys very soon!
If you wish to know more about the upcoming 3rd Mindanao Bloggers Summit 2009, please pre-register here.
By the way, Mindanaoan will be in town until the weekend. Hence, that means that I’ll watch the Philippine premier of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince here!
I will also attend the Digital Filipino CDO Networking Event on the 17th. So if you’re attending that…well…see you then
I could still remember those days when the taxis (cabs) of Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao were the talk of the town…and of other areas in the country, truth be told. Kagay-anons were so elated when Toyota Altis taxis started to roam around the city (and basically snubbed the “old” taxis) and people from other areas started to hope that they, too, can see “sosyal” public utility cabs in their own places. I also remember the many times when the drivers of “old” taxis would just heave a heavy sigh and wish that they, too, can drive a spanking new Toyota Altis taxi soon. After all, just how many passengers have these “old” taxis lost to these shiny new Altis cabs?
Well, taxi operators that still own “old” taxi models in Cagayan de Oro City should really keep up with the pace especially now that there are videoke taxis in CDO! My Southrace boys and I were able to ride one last night. Here are two photos that I took while inside the cab: (photos were only taken via a Motorola Krzr and it was pitch dark so apologies for the odd looking pics!)

Pretty cool, eh? Videoke loving Pinoys will really get a kick out of these types of taxis.
So I’m back from a very brief visit to my hometown, Davao City, Mindanao. While it felt refreshing to be back home, my stay was a painfully short one so it was still really BITIN. My mother, brothers and I were in Wadab town to celebrate one my younger brothers’ birthday. Anyways, the highlight of my Davao City trip was the much-awaited Xcelerator adventure. I have so much to share about my Outland Adventure Xcelerator adventure (I’ll also share some photos!) – I’ll write more about that tomorrow.
In the meantime, I’d just like to share with you all a little bit of info that I got while we were at Outland Adventure. One of the staff members talked to me and told me that a zip line ala Xcelerator might be put up in Cagayan de Oro City (which is roughly 6 hours away from Davao City by bus). The staff member, a male foreigner, even told me that they already met up with someone from the Paras Family (of PARASAT Cable TV and Paras Beach Resort Camiguin) – I’m not sure if they spoke to PARASAT CEO Engr. Elpidio Paras, though. In any case, I was really elated with the news. I really hope that CDO will soon play host to a zip line adventure — perhaps the zip line might even be longer than the Xcelerator, which is currently recognized as the longest speed zip line in all of Asia!
I know zip lines aren’t new in Cagayan de Oro City. In fact, I have tried the zip line and canopy walk over at the Macahambus Cave (spent my birthday last year enjoying the zip line, canopy walk and white water rafting adventure package!).
Still, it would be great if a longer zip line would be put up…don’t you think so?
I got word that Philippine Airlines (PAL) has donated a thermal scanner that can detect if a person has flu or fever. This thermal scanner is set to be installed at the Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro City, Northern Mindanao very soon.
This is really very good news especially since there are now 10 confirmed H1N1 virus cases in the country (and if I’m not mistaken, three people in the Caraga region, Mindanao are currently being suspected of carrying the deadly virus as well) Interestingly, it had to take a corporate giant like PAL to donate a working thermal scanner just so passengers using the Cagayan de Oro airport can be assessed for fever or flu or be more protected against the H1N1 virus. So exactly where’s the health department in all of these?
What about the local government?
I’m sure that more and more passengers from the Northern Mindanao area are now more anxious than ever for the opening of the Laguindingan International Airport.
