Mindanao is my native land. This is where I belong, feel secure and am at peace. To be in Mindanao is to feel the embrace of a warm, soft blanket.

Mindanaoan - Blogging the REAL Mindanao!

Mindanaoan had the chance to cover the uber grand “Wowowillie meets Manny Villar” rally in Cebu City recently. Yes, it was “Wowowee” and popular host Willie Revillame meet Nacionalista Party standard bearer Manny Villar, vice presidential candidate Loren Legarda and senatorial bets Atty. Adel Tamano, Gilbert Remulla, Bongbong Marcos, among others.

I was personally curious as to how the show would go. Of course, it was obviously a political affair in the guise of a variety show. However, and I say this with all fairness, you could sense during the show that because Willie Revillame is an avid supporter of Manny Villar, the show had “heart” (Willie spoke spontaneously as he rallied support for Villar, Legarda and the senatorial candidates, he shared personal experiences, personal thoughts about what the country needs and how Villar can help) and a lot of people really came not because they were “hakot” but because they wanted to see for themselves if indeed Senator Villar was the “sagot sa kahirapan.” I interviewed a lot of people before the show (hundreds already waited as early as 2 PM) and they told me that they wanted to hear for themselves what Senator Villar intends to do, should he gain the presidential seat.

Roughly 100,000 people came and watched the show, which was held at the North Reclamation area in Mandaue City, Cebu. As you can see from the photos I took, a huge stage was put up just for the show and a huge orange check shone brightly at the center of the stage.

Yes, it was a “bongga” show. I’m pretty sure people didn’t mind that the Nacionalista Party candidates were given time to speak and share their platforms of governance. The show was, after all, free and it was “Wowowee.” The show reeked of celebrities – from hosts Randy Santiago and Valerie Concepcion to guest performers Aegis band, Princess Ryan, Christine Reyes, Andrew E. (who brought the house down!) and April Boy Regino (who reportedly came back from the USA just to help in the Nacionalista Party campaigns) And then of course there’s Willie Revillame and his Kembot Girls (one of them was the “Congratulations” girl) plus a special guest sent in a video greeting straight from the USA — no less than Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

Fellow Mindanaoan and world boxing champ Manny Pacquiao is back on the cover of TIME magazine. An article about his rise, fame and everything else in between can also be found in this most recent TIME magazine article about this Filipino boxer and the best pound for pound boxer so far.

manny pacquiao on time

Check out wifey Jinkee’s name on his arm! :)

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is set to face Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto on November 14, 2009 at MGM Las Vegas, Nevada. If he wins, this will be Manny’s 7th worth title in different weight classes.

Which reminds me…where will you watch this Pacquiao vs Cotto fight?

Just in case you missed the Pacman’s guesting on the late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, check this out.

Our Pambansang Kamao, world boxing champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, recently guested over at Jimmy Kimmel Live! Jimmy Kimmel Live! is a late night talk show aired over at ABC in the U.S. and hosted by…who else…funny man Jimmy Kimmel himself.

I was able to watch Manny Pacquiao’s interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! via a video sent to me by a friend in the U.S. If you want to check out the transcription I made, check out my Twitter account for my blow-by-blow account :) In my opinion, Filipino boxing champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao had a good time — in fact, he never stopped smiling and laughing all throughout the interview!

Pacman also shared fun statements during the interview. He said things like he has a dog named Pacman, his superhero character “Wapakman” has a lot of superpowers, that he has more than 30 people in his entourage (hoowow! IKR?) and that each of his “employees” have their own assignments (one is designated to cook, another one is designated to wash his clothes etc). Fellow Mindanaoan Manny Pacquiao also said that he has 8 people living with him in his apartment in Los Angeles, California.

Pacman also sang a song during his Jimmy Kimmel Live guesting, by the way. Thanks to fellow Twitter user heidologies, here’s a video clip of Manny Pacman Pacquiao singing his heart out on American TV:

Can’t help but wonder if Manny’s wife Jinkee Pacquiao and their children were able to watch the guesting live or at least via satellite.

Meanwhile, the highly anticipated boxing match between Filipino pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and Puerto Riccan welterweight titleholder Miguel Cotto will push through on November 14, 2009 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hollywood star, HBO “Entourage” producer and former rapper Mark Wahlberg loves a fellow Mindanaoan, too! This picture clearly shows just how big a fan of Filipino boxing champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao Mark Wahlberg is!

Check out the print on Mark’s shirt: “Pacman Knows

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen Mark openly support the Pambansang Kamao, though. I’ve spotted him on TV doing the red carpet along with Pacquiao.

Thumbs up!

Mindanaoan gani, lahi ra gyud! :D Another Mindanaoan boxer is the current toast of the boxing world! General Santos City native Marvin “Marvelous” Sonsona recently defeated veteran Jose Lopez in a fight in Canada. Ang get this — Marvelous Marvin Sonsona is just 19 years old! Wow! Which reminds me…Perhaps Marvin should reconsider his boxer name and change it to Marvelous Mindanaoan Marvin Sonsona! Hehe :D

Lopez is said to be undefeated for 6 years. Unfortunately for him, a Mindanao boxer took up the challenge and…well…the world now knows who’s better ;)

Sonsona, who boxing experts say has powerful southpaw stance, fought in the junior bantamweight division. He defeated Jose Lopez via decision.

AYOS!

Found this video, by the way, courtesy of Queensberry Rules (check out more videos in that site too):

Hopefully, Marvelous Marvin Sonsona’s victory over Jose Lopez will further inspire our government to support local sports and athletes especially those coming from Mindanao, Philippines!

Congratulations to Team Sonsona!
