HOTEL REVIEWS – Paragon Suites Cebu City is located along Juana Osmena Street, Cebu. Roughly a 10-minute walk away from bustling Mango Avenue (where there’s a lot of videoke places, bars, restaurants, coffee shops and Internet cafe stations), Paragon Suites is ideal for people who want cheap accommodations in Cebu City. One can classify Paragon Suites Cebu as a budget hotel, a budget pension house or a cheap inn with the basic amenities.
I stayed at Paragon Suites Cebu City just a few days ago. I stayed for a total of 3 days and truth be told, I didn’t quite enjoy my stay and therefore will never find myself staying at Paragon Suites Cebu ever again.
But more on that after the jump. Here’s a look at my superior room (rate was P1,380.00 per night):
My room was fully carpeted and fully airconditioned. It had a small refrigerator, a work desk and a chair, two single beds, a television set (not an LCD one, unfortunately) and a bathroom with hot and cold shower. I was provided with two bath towels, two soaps and two sachets of shampoo. There were also two pairs of slippers near the television set but I didn’t bother using them, lest that I catch a foot disease or something. There wasn’t any indication that the slippers were sanitized.
Here’s a look at another part of the room:
Hello fellow Mindanawans! Planning a trip to CDO soon? Here’s a budget hotel in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao that you might be interested in.
Lamar Inn, located at the corner of JR Borja and Velez Streets (just a few blocks away from Divisoria, the heart of the city), is a downtown hotel that offers value for money. Conveniently located at the central business district of the City of Golden Friendship and owned and operated by VIP Hotel (which is located just right across the street), Lamar Inn CDO offers reasonably priced rooms and good amenities.
They have 14 tourist type rooms (P750.00 per night), 8 business type rooms (P850.00 per night) and two suites (P1,300.00 per night).
The business type room that we stayed in recently was air conditioned, had cable television, had a telephone and a hot beverage utility set.
Hence, it was easy for us to prepare coffee even in the middle of the night and early in the morning.
Our room also had hot and cold shower and a clean bathroom. We had clean towels and two bars of soap. No free shampoo but you can easily buy sachets from the reception desk. Bottled mineral water can also be bought at the reception area, by the way.
What I also liked about the business type room was the FREE wireless internet connection! On our first night of stay in Lamar Inn Cagayan de Oro, my wi-fi capable phone caught two wifi signals – Lamar’s and CGC (I reckon this stands for Canoy Group of Companies, the owners of Lamar Inn and yes, of VIP Hotel). I just asked for the security keys from the front desk and I was browsing the web in no time.
The hotel staff members were friendly, by the way, and they made sure that they kept our luggage safe (we had to leave our things for a few hours).
Sir George Pension House in Cagayan de Oro City, Northern Mindanao is fast becoming one of my favorite budget accommodations in CDO. I think I’ve checked in 3 or 4 times after my very first stay at that cheap hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. I like the accessibility of the place (it’s located at corner Pabayo and Gaerlan streets, just a few blocks away from the heart of Divisoria), the room rates are relatively cheap (single room rate starts at P600.00) and they offer FREE Wi-Fi!
Read more about my review of Sir George Pension House over at the Mindanao Hotels page.
I won’t delve more into the amenities of this CDO pension house, though. What I want to share with you guys are these photos of my funny looking yet pretty darn cute hotel room visitor!
During my most recent stay at Sir George Pension House Cagayan de Oro, I mistakenly left behind my Guess sunglasses. Well, look at who was wearing them as soon as I got back to my room!

Apparently, the room attendant over at Sir George has a knack for creating pretty cool stuff with the mere use of a towel
It looks like a “towel dog” at first…but I reckon it looks more like a “towel pig” when you look at it from this angle…what do you guys think? LOL
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY MINDANAO – Here’s another value-for-your-money budget accommodation in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao – Sir George Pension House. Located at corner Pabayo and Gaerlan Streets (just a few blocks away from Divisoria), Sir George Pension House Cagayan de Oro is a new player in the Mindanao hotel and lodging industry. With more and more events being held in CDO and a very business-friendly atmosphere in Northern Mindanao, this cheap hotel in Cagayan de Oro is definitely a welcome addition to Mindanao tourism especially to the tourism efforts of CDO.
Here are the room rates of Sir George Pension House CDO:

Speaking of room rates, the range of room rates of this Cagayan de Oro budget hotel was actually the first thing that caught my attention. Not bad for an inn that also offers FREE wi-fi Internet, yes? (my humble homestead in Farm Town was therefore still very much well-maintained during my 2-day stay LOL)
The room that I got was a double room. It had a small television set which had cable connection, a telephone, a refrigerator (which I absolutely liked because that meant that I could easily just buy beverage from nearby convenience stores and place them in the fridge), cabinets for my clothes, a simple vanity table which also doubled as my work desk, a chair, a comfortable double bed with clean sheets and hot and cold shower. My room did have free wi-fi Internet although the hotel management staff told me that only selected rooms have strong wi-fi access. (I guess the ones near the guest reception area) I was provided with clean, fluffy towels and a bar of soap.
My room at Sir George Pension House Cagayan de Oro City was airconditioned and clean. Even though my room was right along a relatively busy street (Pabayo Street), it wasn’t noisy at night. It also had enough space for me to move around – unlike many cramped budget inns.
The only downside about the room that I got was the very weak water pressure at the washroom. I had to request for a tabo and a timba (pail). Oddly enough, the shower was all right — there just wasn’t enough water pressure for you to flush the toilet. There also wasn’t a garbage can in the washroom (which for me is a bit necessary). The only garbage can was found at the vanity table area.
Other than these, there wasn’t anything else to complain about. The staff members were friendly. Even the security guard was helpful enough to hail a taxi for me.
By the way, you might be surprised to find that this Cagayan de Oro pension house uses a ramp (instead of stairs) from the reception desk towards the second floor. It was all right for me but for those of you who might wear heels during your stay at Sir George Pension House, just make sure that you hold on to the railings very well!
All in all — I highly recommend that you stay at Sir George Pension House Cagayan de Oro. If you’re in need of a clean, decent airconditioned room that also offers free wi-fi Internet, then check out this place…and please don’t forget to mention that you found out all about their budget inn here at Mindanaoan!
Thankies!
Here are some of the photos I took of my room in Sir George Pension House:

Here’s another Mindanao Hotels review. Goodnews Traveller’s Inn is located along Capt. Vicente Roa Street, Cagayan de Oro City, Northern Mindanao, Philippines. It’s near the busy Cogon Market and is accessible by public utility vehicles (taxi, jeepney, trisikad and motorela) This lodging house in Cagayan de Oro City is also just a few steps away from the Cagayan de Oro City fire station.
Truth be told, Goodnews Travellers Inn was my last…okay, ONLY choice at the time I was in CDO because all of the other hotels in Cagayan de Oro were fully booked. So with my hopes up, I checked in and got a double room. I paid P950.00 for the double airconditioned room.
My room was at the third floor, which was a major bummer. Apart from the fact that I’m not a fan of using the stairs (Goodnews Travelers Inn does not have an elevator), I also learned that the inn’s wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) facility no longer extends up to the third floor. Wi-Fi internet is NOT FREE at this budget hotel in CDO, take note. You need to buy an internet access card (P100.00 for 3 hours, I think) before you can fully enjoy the Wi-Fi connection.
As you can see from the photos I took, the double room looks pretty decent. There’s a telephone, the room is airconditioned, there’s a TV set (there’s cable connection, by the way) and a small table with two chairs. There’s also a big cabinet by the bed where you can find a few hangers.
Now…the comfort room. Well, as you can see, it has seen better days (just check out the broken mirror by the sink) but at least it’s clean. There’s hot and cold shower and the towels are okay. I highly suggest you bring your own toiletries, though.

Since my room was by the busy street, it was pretty noisy especially during lunch time. In the evenings, empty taxis or motorelas are also difficult to come by so be prepared to walk towards the Cogon Market area and hail a cab from there.
My room didn’t come with free breakfast but there’s a Persimmon bakeshop-restaurant at the first floor so at least I was able to order coffee in the morning (you also have the option to order room service). Persimmon serves reasonably priced food. I suggest you order their pancit guisado or any of their viands.

My overnight stay at Goodnews Travellers’ Inn Cagayan de Oro City was pretty much all right. No fuss, no hassles. Just basic and safe accommodation in the City of Golden Friendship.
