Hi everyone! This Mindanao blogger is back from a weeklong trip to Singapore and Malaysia. Yes, this is my second time in both countries…having been there last February 2011 with my mom. Needless to say, I have fallen in love with these two Asian countries! This time around, I traveled with my brother, a female friend and two female cousins. Since I was the "returnee" in the group, I was also the self-appointed tour guide. Our trip went really well (I'll make kuwento!) except that I had terrible flu the night before our flight. GMA 7 is really gearing up its efforts to promote their television programs and artists via regional events these days. In fact, I think GMA Channel 7 is keen on holding more and more promotional events not only in key cities but even in smaller towns and municipalities around Mindanao. Proof of this is their string of Kapuso Nights around Mindanao (and yes, in Visayas and Luzon as well). You know when people say don't even try to glance at food blogs or pictures of food before you sleep? Okay, I made that up (HAHA) but really, that should be made into law! I made this mistake of checking out photos of food tonight (I was supposed to sleep about 10 minutes ago) and then I stumbled upon product shots of one of my favorite foodie finds since late last year --- Boyong's Special Bagoong! Obviously, I can't sleep now. I'm hoping that by blogging about this Mindanao product, dalawin uli ako ng antok! O.o Now for the uninitiated, bagoong is a Philippine condiment made of partially or completely fermented shrimps (or fish). One of the things that I absolutely MUST do whenever I travel domestic or abroad is try the local cuisine. By local cuisine I mean street food, food sold in hawker centers or food courts or food that look "unique" --- basically food usually eaten by locals during regular days. As much as possible, this Mindanao blogger doesn't eat at fastfood chains. I do this because it makes me appreciate that country's culture, people, tradition and food better. And so it's formally confirmed! The home of Asia's longest dual cable zipline will also be the home of the much-awaited CDO - Dahilayan Trail 55k Ultra Marathon on July 9, 2011. Anybody who knows me well knows that I am a huge fan of Kean Cipriano. For the uninitiated, Kean Cipriano is the lead vocalist of the popular Filipino band Callalily. His band is best known for the hit songs "Hintay," "Magbalik," "Stars," "Sanctuary" and "Susundan." I first met Kean in person when I was hired as an event organizer of a Callalily concert a few years ago. Needless to say, as soon as I watched him and his band perform, I was hooked! Mass videoconference aims to link Manila and Iligan students

Before anything else, I'd like to say that I'm a proud RockEd volunteer. Rock Ed Philippines, which began in 2005, aims to get Filipinos interested in nation building. Rock Ed links Filipinos from all walks of life with causes that they are interested in. Once you sign up for Rock Ed, you're assigned projects that fit your expertise, interests or skill sets. In my case, I usually volunteer for projects related to blogging, publicity, event management, photography, media and business-related stuff. Here's a great follow-up to my previous blog post about the Mindanao youth org-finalists to the 8th Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards --- two (yes, TWO!) youth groups from Mindanao won! Let's all congratulate the Pro-Drop Out Reduction Program (PRO-DORP) Team from Surigao del Sur, Mindanao and the 4-H Mandaya Tribal Youth Organization (MTYO) from Compostela Valley, Mindanao! Davao City’s musical fountain worth P18M is 1st in Mindanao

As you guys may or may not know, the local government unit of my hometown Davao City, Mindanao has banned the use and sale of fireworks for years now. So yes, it's been a series of pretty "quiet" Christmases and New Year's Eves in Davao for several years now. Quiet but safe. Now, because fireworks aren't permitted, the Davao City government, led by Mayor Sara Duterte, has come up with the next best thing - an P18 Million dancing, musical fountain! The grand musical fountain, which can be found at the Davao City People's Park (former PTA Grounds, along Camus Street), is said to be the first in Mindanao.
