Mindanao is my native land. This is where I belong, feel secure and am at peace. To be in Mindanao is to feel the embrace of a warm, soft blanket.

Mindanaoan - Blogging the REAL Mindanao!

So here’s part two of my earlier blog post about my road trip to Ozamiz City, Mindanao. Please do read my earlier post to know how I traveled to Ozamiz City from Cagayan de Oro City, what I rode in order to reach the Ozamiz Port and what my initial impressions of the city named after Jose F. Ozamiz were.

I was in Ozamiz City a few days ago for a wedding photo coverage gig with my professional photographer-brother Bon and Onat. My role, by the way, was of a very excited 2nd photographer :)

That wedding photography gig was a welcome respite for me as I’ve been busy as of late with politicians, events, travels and political-related PR and of course, with the campaigns. Thankfully, that chance for me to travel and to take photos came and I immediately joined Bon.

My brother Bon’s clients were Garry and Quennie, a lovely couple. Both of them currently work in Dubai and were only back in the country for several weeks for bonding with family, a little R and R and of course, for the big wedding :)

Below are some of the shots taken during Garry and Quennie’s wedding in Ozamiz City. The rest of the photos may be viewed here.

And if you or anyone you know need a wedding photographer (we can travel all over Mindanao, all over the Philippines and even all over the world!), please don’t hesitate to CONTACT ME. We charge very reasonable rates and all rates are negotiable! You can also contact me by calling or sending a text message to any of these numbers: (+63) 919 238 6575 / (+63) 922 934 7198. You can also send me email by clicking this page or sending it directly to mindanaoan (at) gmail (dot) com.

To Garry and Quennie – may the good Lord bless your union and thank you for letting us be a part of your very special day! :)

Are you in Davao City, Mindanao? Or will you be in Davao City this month? Looking for events in Davao City?

There’s a month-long photo exhibit that you might want to check out.

Dubbed “My Davao, My Mindanao,” this photo exhibit showcases the works of photojournalists Jojie Alcantara and Rhonson Ng. The exhibit will show the beauty and grandeur of Davao City and Mindanao through the eyes (and camera lenses!) of Jojie and Rhonson.

The “My Davao, My Mindanao” photo exhibit can be found at Museo Dabawenyo.

During my PAL Express flight from the Cebu International Airport, Mactan to Cagayan de Oro Domestic Airport, I took some aerial shots. I got a window seat at that time (I was also supposed to have a window seat during my PAL Express CDO to Cebu flight but my seatmate, an elderly woman who confessed that it’s been so long since she last traveled by plane, looked pale and scared so I no longer insisted) so it was easy for me to take aerial shots of Cagayan de Oro City as our plane descended and prepared for landing.

Mindanaoan wishes to share these Cagayan de Oro City aerial shots:

So I just produced the photos I took during my very first wedding photography coverage gig. I was one of the photographers (and the only female photographer, I should say) during the Prestenbach Wedding in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao last December 28, 2008. (Yep, I guess I’m now a wedding photographer here in Mindanao! :) ) It was truly a great day – to be able to capture people and moments and to be a part of a nice couple’s memorable day. The Prestenbachs, a Germany-based couple, have been together for 15 great years and they’re thinking of moving here in the Philippines for good. The Prestenbachs have two lovely children. They also have this magnificent beachfront property in Baloy, Cagayan de Oro.

Here are some of my wedding photography photos:

* All photos are of low resolution only. All photos optimized. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED *

I use a Nikon DSLR. I use two lenses – one Nikkor and one Sigma. I also have a wide angle lens that’s great for landscapes and microphotography.

I’m looking forward to doing more photography gigs here in Mindanao. Not just weddings, mind you. I also do fashion photography, portraits, food photography, nature/landscapes and events (one of my favorites so far especially since I’m an events organizer myself). So if you have a special event, please don’t hesitate to contact me :) I would love to know how I can help make your special day even more memorable! :)

Oh yeah, before I forget, I work closely with my brother and his other photographer friends. Usually, there are 2-4 photographers in every wedding coverage. We can also refer you to a videographer here in Mindanao (the videographers we know are based in Cagayan de Oro but they can travel to just about anywhere, really. My brother’s photographer – videographer team has been to Davao City, Camiguin, Dipolog City, Iligan, Malaybalay City, Valencia City and neighboring towns here in Mindanao).

Contact me today or you can also call/text (+63) 919 238 6575. We’d love to hear more about your special event or wedding plans! And don’t worry, we offer highly affordable rates. All fees are negotiable, too!

So whether your wedding will be in Davao City, General Santos City, Zamboanga, Bukidnon (the Monastery of Transfiguration in Malaybalay City is a favorite of many!), Cagayan de Oro City, Butuan…name the place in Mindanao and we can go there. We can also travel to Visayas (we’ve covered events in Cebu City and my brother and his photographer-friends have conducted photography workshops in Cebu) and Luzon :)

Calling all photography buffs out there! A photography workshop for a cause will take place on Friday, December 5, 2008 in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao. Beneficiaries of the event will be the street children of Agora, CDO (Agora is where the CDO public market is)

Registration fee only costs P500.00 and there will be five speakers – all of whom have proven their skills and talent in the field of visual arts, photography, layout and design.

What’s also great about this workshop is that an on-the-spot photoshoot along with Cagayan de Oro City’s top models will serve as the day-long event’s culminating activity. This is because renowned Kagay-an fashion designer Gil Macaibay III will showcase his designs via a fashion show at Ghana Bar and all the workshop participants will be part of the photographers’ pool.

There will also be a model during the workshop itself. Organizers tell Mindanaoan that one of CDO’s beautiful faces and in demand model, Natasha Mills, may become the model. How’s that for inspiration to all of you photographers?

Check out the poster in this entry. Contact persons and numbers may be found on the poster.

Join this photography workshop for a cause and not only will you have the chance to further hone your shutterbug skills but you will also have the chance to extend help to Agora’s street children as well.

See you there!
