Only one Mindanaoan made it to the coveted list of the senatorial candidates who will receive the support of the reported 5-million strong Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).
Incumbent Bukidnon 2nd District Congressman Teofisto “TG” Guingona III, who’s currently gunning for a senatorial seat under the banner of the Liberal Party, is the lone Mindanaoan who’s set to receive votes from INC.
INC is reportedly the biggest religious sect in the country that observes bloc voting. Reportedly, non-compliance to the voting preference of the leadership is considered a sin that is punishable by expulsion.
Other senatorial bets who will receive support from the INC are Ramon Revilla Jr., Lito Lapid, Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada, and Pia Cayetano; former senators Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Franklin Drilon, and Ralph Recto; and Reps. Rozzano Biazon and Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Meanwhile, can you guys still remember this? How fast time flies, no? Yes, believe it or not, Guingona used to be a part of the Nacionalista Party and he used to be one of NP standard bearer Sen. Manny Villar’s boys.

And wasn’t it just yesterday when Guingona said that he won’t join the Liberal Party?
Don’t strike Nur Misuari out just yet!
Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Chairman Nur Misuari successfully assembled hundreds of MNLF commanders, leaders and members during the 5th National Bangsamoro Consultative Assembly held at Zamboanga Sibugay, Mindanao.

Hundreds of MNLF members came (a lot even came down from the boondocks just for the event) that the local army reportedly got a bit alarmed. Thankfully, authorities understood what the event was for. It was, after all, a peaceful meeting among Bangsamoros.
The 5th National Bangsamoro Consultative Assembly aimed to obtain, through “shura” or Islamic consultation, the pulse of the Moro people regarding the peace talks between the government and the MNLF.

Just a few days ago, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay paid Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao a visit. He was the guest of honor in an SK-related event, I think. However, sources told me that he also proceeded to the Province of Bukidnon to meet some political allies.
Care to guess what they discussed?
Senator Mar Roxas, on the other hand, has also been visible around Mindanao as of late. Touted as the Liberal Party’s presidential bet, Senator Mar has been doing the rounds here as commencement exercises speaker.
Same thing with the solon from Sorsogon, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero. He was in Iligan City, Davao City, Ozamis City, Cagayan de Oro City and Maguindanao recently. Chiz’s office also released some video greetings wherein he spoke in various dialects including Bisaya.
Check out his Kaamulan 2009 greeting for the people of Bukidnon (this video also appears in Bukidnon Online):
The Office of Senator Richard Gordon, meanwhile, has also been on a roll as of late. I’ve been receiving a ton of press releases/media statements from his office.
Another Mindanaoan believed to have very good chances of winning a Senatorial seat has also slowly but surely started to become more and more visible — Atty. Adel Tamano.
With these types of direct and “subtle” PR efforts, you can’t help but wonder if the campaign season has already begun. When does being a public servant end and being a “presidentiable” or “senatoriable” begin?
And more importantly — given all their visits and PR campaigns here in Mindanao — do you think they’ve tickled the Mindanaoan’s fancy?
