Chinese General Consul visits CDO, inspects Sendong homes

The General Consul of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Zhang Wei Guo, (center with corsage) recently visited Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao, Philippines to inspect the second batch of 150 houses – all imported from China – which the Filipino – Chinese Community in CDO has pledged to donate for Typhoon Sendong victims. The 150 houses that the Chinese General Consul inspected are now in their final stages of completion. The houses are part of the 600 houses that were earlier pledged by the Filipino Chinese Community in Cagayan de Oro for Typhoon Sendong victims.

Briefing General Consul Zhang is Mr. Greg Lao (in eyeglasses), the General Secretary of the Filipino Chinese Community who manages the construction of the houses. Also shown in photo together with the entourage are dignitaries from the Chinese Progressive Masons Club of the Philippines, Past President Chi Kai Hui, President Ronald Ko, and Yang Jian Xin. Shown at far left in the background is the Working Committee Member, Mr. Tomas C. Sia (in checkered polo) interviewing one of the beneficiaries of this housing project.

The group is happy with the progress of the construction and urges the government to expedite the site development component of the Calaanan Relocation site in Cagayan de Oro City. As a legacy to the efforts of the Filipino Chinese Community, this part of the relocation area will be known as the Filipino Chinese Friendship Village.

Meanwhile, Chinese General Consul Zhang Wei Guo was also presented an award of distinction by the Philippine Progressive Masons Club – Cagayan de Oro Chapter.

The recently concluded national convention of the Philippine Progressive Masons Club also brought into the city 14 chapters from across the country. As a solid and potent force in socio-civic activities, the organization has very strong advocacies in education, volunteer fire brigades, medical missions and relief operations. It is worthwhile to note that the Philippine Progressive Masons Club has donated generously to the creation of a Filipino Chinese Friendship Village at the Calaanan Relocation Center for victims of Typhoon Sendong.
