Conquering Mangima Road with Ford Ranger Raptor

In a previous blog post, I mentioned that I am in the market for a new vehicle and currently weighing options. Aside from budget, comfort level and features, I thought I also needed a vehicle that could fit my busy and adventure-filled lifestyle but can also be formal and practical, preferably one that didn’t really require further modifications.

See, I may be a girl but more often than not, I’m not that girly-girl, if you know what I mean. I have my happy-in-a-dress days but I have more makeup-free, slippers-only, super comfortable clothes on days. So, to me, that’s a challenge.

Is there a vehicle out there for someone who loves to travel and conquer many adventures but who also loves to take the family, friends and loved ones for fun escapades, lead community projects, volunteer for causes close to the heart and run businesses at the same time?

A few days ago, I had the chance to test if a Ford Ranger Raptor could address that need. I must admit, it was a daunting idea at first. I mean, HAVE YOU SEEN a Ford Ranger Raptor? It’s HUGE.

From driving a sedan to this latest Ford power truck? Of course, I was stoked! The Ford Raptor is not called an Off-Road Warrior for anything. It boasts of an elevated design of 283mm and an 850mm water wading capacity – which means you can cross rivers, like, literally.

Here’s a quick rundown of its features – 2.0 L Bi-Turbo Diesel Engine with 10-speed auto transmission, a cutting-edge terrain management system that offers 6 pre-set driving modes including the much-talked-about Baja mode, magnesium shifter paddles, hill launch and hill assist (I appreciated these features so much when I drove the unit!), seating capacity of 5, 33-inch all-terrain tires (I told you, this baby has an arrive a.k.a. may dating lol) and a user-friendly performance cockpit (yes, the entertainment panel is a dream).

Driving in the rain

I also love the dual zone control for the aircon (this means that I, a certified aircon lover, can enjoy super cool temperature while the passenger can easily adjust the temperature on his/her side), its fuel efficiency (yes, for a monster truck, that’s absolutely impressive) and the electric power assisted steering wheel.

But you know what the say, right? The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

And so, on a fine weekend, I took this baby for a spin along one of the Philippines’ most challenging roads – the Cagayan de Oro – Bukidnon route. There are lots of portions along the CDO – Bukidnon road that have made even veteran drivers extra cautious.

As for me, I’m a very careful lady driver (you can see that in the video below). I often take my sweet time because I know I have my loved ones waiting for me at home. However, I have to admit – driving the Raptor was so effortless that before I knew it, I hit more than 100 (kids, don’t try this at home lol)

The Ford Ranger Raptor is undoubtedly a beautiful BEAST – inside and out. It’s an eye-catcher, that’s for sure. I can no longer remember just how many folks (99% were males) unabashedly stared at me during traffic stops. However, more than the admiring stares, I’m sure they all know just how powerfully sexy the Raptor is.

The Ford Raptor is a dream vehicle that has all the bells and whistles. Definitely no modifications necessary.
