UPDATE: The opening has been deferred to JUNE 15, 2013 although it must be emphasized that the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines - Northern Mindanao office has YET to receive a formal, official order from Malacanan Palace. Finally! The most-awaited opening of the Laguindingan International Airport will finally be held on April 30, 2013. This, according to Philippine President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III himself. During Aquino's most recent visit to Northern Mindanao (actually, the very same day Team PNoy visited Alubijid and Cagayan de Oro City to kickstart their Mindanao sorties), he shared the good news - Laguindingan Airport will be operational by April 30, 2013. Like I previously mentioned in this blog, I had the chance of a lifetime to accompany US Ambassador to the Philippines Harry Thomas, Jr. for two days. It truly was an honor to be that up close and personal with the American ambassador, who I found to be very smart, direct and friendly. As a part of his party when he visited Cagayan de Oro City for the very first time last week, I got the chance to accompany him in various events. We attended the distribution of HACCP and ISO certificates to 10 Mindanao companies, the roundtable discussion with CIPMYL graduates in Xavier University and the launch of the Cities Development Initiative in CDO. During his recent visit to Cagayan de Oro, US Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr. led the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cagayan de Oro City LGU. The MOU was for the launch of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)'s Cities Development Initiative. Ambassador Thomas, USAID Mission Director Gloria D. Steele and Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano all signed the MOU last Friday, June 29, 2012 at a local hotel in Cagayan de Oro. The launch of the Cities Development Initiative in CDO is seen to be very beneficial to the LGU. Just last week, this humble blogger in Mindanao was granted a chance of a lifetime - to be able to accompany U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas, Jr. for two days! I was part of US Ambassador Harry Thomas, Jr.'s party when he visited Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao. It was the American ambassador's very first visit to CDO. The two-day adventure with the friendly ambassador started right from the airport - where I experienced first hand how it was to be a part of an official U.S. Ambassador's group. It's official, folks! :) I have been chosen by the U.S. Department of State to visit the United States of America as a participant in the International Visitor Leadership Program or IVLP. I will leave for the U.S. on March 3, 2012 and will stay there until the first week of April 2012 :) Actually, the program that I will be a part of will only run for 3 weeks but I plan to stay a bit more to savor the sights and sounds of the USA. During the 3-week program, I will visit Washington, Orlando Florida, Salt Lake City Utah and Portland Oregon. Here's a quick update to my previous post about the 10th anniversary celebration of Citihardware CDO. I was tapped as the event manager for Citi Hardware Cagayan de Oro 10th Anniversary celebration. That was my second project for Citihardware CDO. The first one was during the opening of its Citihardware Bulua branch. The Citihardware CDO 10th anniversary event was held at its newest and by far the second largest Citihardware outlet in the entire country - Citihardware Tablon (the largest one remains to be its Davao head office). Is Mindanao Philippines ready for another Hollywood film shooting? Which area or areas in Mindanao can easily be a great location for the next big Hollywood movie? I can't help but think about these after I read that Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and a couple of other Hollywood actors and actresses are set to arrive in Manila, Philippines early next year for the shooting of "The Bourne Legacy." According to the Film Development Council of the Philippines, "Bourne Legacy" will shoot scenes in Manila, Philippines by January 2012. The movie is set for release sometime August 2012. Early this week, my cousins, some friends and I went to the Dahilayan Adventure Park in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Just in case you still do not know, Dahilayan Adventure Park is home to Asia's longest dual cable zipline --- all 840 meters of it! The Bukidnon zipline adventure park is also 4,500 meters above sea level so the climate there's pretty cold :) Anyways, I'll tell you more about my recent trip to this Bukidnon tourist spot in another post.
