The new United States Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, Leslie A. Bassett, will speak during the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 3 which will be held on October 24, 2009 at Pearlmont Inn, Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao. Bassett will represent US Ambassador Kristie Kenney who initially agreed to attend the MBS 3 but had to attend to other pressing matters. AVON Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk successfully held in Mindanao

My mom and I joined the Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao leg of the AVON Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk for A Cause last Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the kiosk area, Divisoria. The fundraiser, which was participated in by hundreds of ladies (and gents!) all garbed in pink, aimed to push advocacy for women’s health and fitness, breast cancer awareness as well as women’s protection against breast cancer. The walk started at around 6 am. The crowd then reconvened at the kiosk area at around 9 am and a short program was held. There were speakers from hospitals and schools who spoke about the importance of mammography, regular breast check-ups, awareness on the causes and effects of cancer etc. Bands from Xavier University's Soundtable group also performed intermission numbers. Davao City sends P10M financial aid to Tropical Storm Ondoy victims

Wow, go Mindanao! This piece of news about my beloved hometown is definitely heartwarming :) Davao City will send P10 Million from the city's own calamity fund for the victims of Tropical Storm Ondoy (international code name: Ketsana). Thank you to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and to all the members of the city council for this effort! I salute you all and of course, I salute all fellow Dabawenyos for the hard work you've all exerted so far. The money will be coursed through the Philippine National Red Cross. My 3 younger brothers and I all loved to draw, paint and sketch. However, our father taught us how to further hone our skills. My father was a very talented illustrator. I used "was" because he died several years ago, back when I was still in college. He was an amazing artist - with just a charcoal pencil and a blank sheet of paper, he could whip up a very detail-oriented drawing of a hen taking care of its chicks in just a few minutes. He could sketch a portrait oh so effortlessly. He didn't like to trace and he seldom used an eraser. He drew from the heart. Senator Pia Cayetano places 2nd in her age group in Ironman Philippines – picture inside

A female Philippine senator recently passed one of the most gruelling tests of health and fitness! Senator Pia S. Cayetano reached the finish line with businessman Fernando Zobel de Ayala at the first-ever Cobra International Ironman 70.3 Philippines held at the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex on Sunday (August 23). The senator placed second in her age group with a time of 5 hours and 57 minutes which qualified her for a slot at the 2009 Ironman 70.3 World Championships to be held in Clearwater, Florida. The Ironman Philippines race course consisted of a 1.9-kilometer swim, 90-kilometer bike and 21.1-kilometer run. Not bad for a busy legislator, yes? During my PAL Express flight from the Cebu International Airport, Mactan to Cagayan de Oro Domestic Airport, I took some aerial shots. I got a window seat at that time (I was also supposed to have a window seat during my PAL Express CDO to Cebu flight but my seatmate, an elderly woman who confessed that it's been so long since she last traveled by plane, looked pale and scared so I no longer insisted) so it was easy for me to take aerial shots of Cagayan de Oro City as our plane descended and prepared for landing. One of Mindanaoan's good investments last year was to buy a pair of Fitflops. I, Mindanaoan, am off to Mars! Mars as in planet Mars ha? Yup, yup, yup! For real! I just included my name in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology website of NASA. So now my name is one of the many included on a microchip on the Mars Science Laboratory rover heading to Mars in year 2011! Yehey! :) As soon as I keyed in my name, country and zip code, I got a certificate as proof that my name will be in the microchip of the rover that will be off to Mars 2 years from now.
