Allow Mindanaoan to be oh-so-giddy! I'm just sooo excited with this piece of news that I got a hold of yesterday via Davao Base. I learned that there will be an Ateneo de Davao University and Ateneo de Manila University Glee Club joint concert on November! AAAHHH!!! The First Magis: The All-Ateneo Glee Club Concerto will be held on November 28, 2009, 7PM at the Finster Auditorium, 7th Floor of the Finster Building, Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City, Mindanao! The Ateneo de Manila College Glee Club and the Carillon, the official Ateneo de Davao University Glee Club, will perform. And why is this such a big deal for me, you may ask? AVON Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk successfully held in Mindanao

My mom and I joined the Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao leg of the AVON Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk for A Cause last Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the kiosk area, Divisoria. The fundraiser, which was participated in by hundreds of ladies (and gents!) all garbed in pink, aimed to push advocacy for women’s health and fitness, breast cancer awareness as well as women’s protection against breast cancer. The walk started at around 6 am. The crowd then reconvened at the kiosk area at around 9 am and a short program was held. There were speakers from hospitals and schools who spoke about the importance of mammography, regular breast check-ups, awareness on the causes and effects of cancer etc. Bands from Xavier University's Soundtable group also performed intermission numbers. Mindanaoan still can't concentrate well. As much as I want to work and attend to various other matters, I still can't help but log on to Twitter via Tweetdeck (which I highly recommend that you Twitter-holics use, by the way) and check how the search and rescue as well as the relief goods distribution efforts for Typhoon Ondoy victims are doing. I keep on retweeting helpful information as much as I can and it warms my heart to see so many private citizens doing their share in helping the victims. Hello, everyone! I know it's been a very difficult two days for all of us here in the Philippines - more especially for those in Luzon. Typhoon Ondoy (international code name: Ketsana) has caused so much catastrophe in our country. It left thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, homeless, hungry and in pain. My 3 younger brothers and I all loved to draw, paint and sketch. However, our father taught us how to further hone our skills. My father was a very talented illustrator. I used "was" because he died several years ago, back when I was still in college. He was an amazing artist - with just a charcoal pencil and a blank sheet of paper, he could whip up a very detail-oriented drawing of a hen taking care of its chicks in just a few minutes. He could sketch a portrait oh so effortlessly. He didn't like to trace and he seldom used an eraser. He drew from the heart. How ForMe Boutique CDO almost robbed me of nearly 400 pesos and how ForMe has lost a customer forever

What supposed to be was a fun Sunday shopping spree went sour when Mindanaoan was almost "robbed" of nearly 400 pesos by a boutique in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao. It's really disappointing and I'm writing about this to reiterate the need and importance of consumer protection and rights of paying customers. The CDO Limketkai Mall branch of ForMe, a company owned by Golden ABC (which also runs Oxygen, Red Logo, Memo, Regatta and Penshoppe), failed to bill me correctly and if I wasn't able to double check my purchases and receipt, I would have been "robbed" of P379.20 Here's what happened... I, Mindanaoan, am off to Mars! Mars as in planet Mars ha? Yup, yup, yup! For real! I just included my name in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology website of NASA. So now my name is one of the many included on a microchip on the Mars Science Laboratory rover heading to Mars in year 2011! Yehey! :) As soon as I keyed in my name, country and zip code, I got a certificate as proof that my name will be in the microchip of the rover that will be off to Mars 2 years from now. My classmate in Ateneo and Sarangani provincial governor Miguel Rene Dominguez is asking for trouble. Not a few eyebrows will surely be raised after he reportedly blamed the Mindanao media for "always highlighting all the bad things that are happening in Mindanao." Same goes with Lt. Colonel Edgardo de Leon, commander of the 73rd Infantry Battalion, who also blamed the media. Disappointed with two Davao City taxi drivers

So I was in Davao City over the weekend for their Philippine Councilors' League gig. Since I'm a certified Dabawenya (born and raised in Davao City!), I was the self-appointed "tour guide" of sorts during our two-day stay in the largest city in the world. Now what I'm about to share is NOT to lambast anyone. Instead, I'm hoping that somehow this could serve as a wake-up call not only for the City Tourism Office of Davao City but also for the hundreds of taxi drivers in Davao City as well.
