When we finally arrived at the farm, I noticed that my camera flash diffuser was missing. I thought of checking the area where KT sat - because if you remember I sat beside him to teach him some local words. ...
Is Mindanao Philippines ready for another Hollywood film shooting? Which area or areas in Mindanao can easily be a great location for the next big Hollywood movie?
I can't help but think about these after I read that Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and a couple of other Hollywood actors and actresses are set to arrive in Manila, Philippines early next year for the shooting of "The Bourne Legacy."
According to the Film Development Council of the Philippines, "Bourne Legacy" will shoot scenes in Manila, Philippines by January 2012. The movie is set for release sometime August 2012. "The Bourne Legacy" also stars Rachel Weisz, Albert Finney and...get this...Edward Norton! (I just love, love, love Edward Norton!)
Forty year old Jeremy Renner (of "Hurt Locker" fame and a two time Oscar Awa...
Color Me Badd. All 4 One. I literally waited decades before it happened. And when it finally did, I forgot all the questions that I wanted to ask All 4 One and Color Me Badd for the longest time. I just simply enjoyed every moment I spent with them, did not hesitate to let them know that I was a certified fan, became their self-appointed paparazzi for the day, screamed at the top of my lungs, danced onstage (gulp!) and told them again and again just how loved they all were, still are and always will be! And - get this - I spent time again with them a few days later, got autographs and a special video message from All 4 One and Color Me Badd for all my beloved readers! Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!
BUT!!! I’m getting way ahead of myself. Ch-ch-check out my big All 4 One and Colo...

Martin Nievera and Sarah Geronimo Live in Cagayan de Oro radio ad by asteriskec
It's been more than 2 weeks since their highly successful Cagayan de Oro, Philippines show but this Filipina travel and lifestyle blogger is still buzzin'! Yes, folks, I'm still on a high! :D
As you guys may know, Mindanaoan.com was an official media partner of the All 4 One and Color Me Badd back-to-back concert last September 10, 2011 at the Atrium of the Limketkai Center in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao, Philippines. It was a major thing for a certified fan like myself --- not only did I get to meet the boys up close and personal (OMG!!!), spend time with them and see their real, offstage personas, I also had the chance to gather autographs, take lots of photos and...*drum roll please*...meet them again in Manila before they flew out for Los Angeles! *cartwheels*
I will share with...
Calling all filmmakers! The 2011 Mindanao Film Festival is now calling for entries! The 7th Mindanao Film Festival is opening its doors for Mindanaoan / Mindanawan / Mindanawon filmmakers as well as non-Mindanaoan movie makers but whose feature length film, short film, movies or documentary is about, shot in or related to Mindanao.
The Mindanao Film Festival 2011 is an initiative to showcase films made in, made about and made by Mindanaoan filmmakers. The festival aims to popularize the art of independent filmmaking as an essential medium of cultural and artistic expression.
This year, there will be two categories. One is the Exhibition Films and Student Films --- these are films shot between October 2010 and September 2011. These films should not have also been shown in past Mindana...
This is one very interesting documentary that we all should watch. Dokyu5, a program that airs via TV5 Manila, will feature the state of water resources in the Philippines and the looming crisis. I'm interested with this because one of the localities that will be featured is my very own hometown in Mindanao --- Davao City! So fellow Dabawenyos, manan-aw gyud ta ani! DOKYU5’s Huling Patak Ulat ni Luchi Cruz-Valdes airs this Sunday (August 28) on TV5 Manila. Please check which channel TV5 airs in your own area. In Davao, it's Channel 29.
An archipelago, the Philippines is surrounded by bodies of water. Yet, by 2025, experts predict a severe water shortage in the country. The rapid increase in population, urbanization and industrialization has reduced the quantity and affected the quality ...
Amid other big news today, the reported resignation of Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri was the most talked about. A lot of people shared their reactions to the news that the senator from Bukidnon and fellow Mindanaoan Senator Migs Zubiri will resign amid allegations of poll fraud claims. Mindanaoan wrote a blog post about this earlier.
As I previously mentioned, I called up some key people from the Zubiri camp. I also even contacted Senator Migs Zubiri himself. However, although I was privy to some important details, I refused to confirm anything pending the privilege speech of Senator Miguel Zubiri before the Senate plenary, which happened today, August 3, 2011. I was also told that his father, former Bukidnon governor now vice governor Jose Ma. Zubiri, Jr., mother Maria Victoria "Vicky," w...
A few weeks ago, this Mindanao blog broke the news about former Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila president and very first Filipino Muslim scholar-graduate of Harvard University Atty. Adel Tamano being the new Dean of the College of Law of Liceo University, Cagayan de Oro City, Northern Mindanao. Boy, that blog entry attracted a whole lotta traffic and it was shared so many times in various social networking websites! (thank you everybody! :D)
Now, you might think that because of this new gig, Sir Adel has really bid adieu to limelight. Think again. Atty. Adel Tamano is the newest host to join ANC or the ABS CBN News Channel. He will soon have a primetime show on ANC. First airing is tentatively set on July 7, 2011 at 7:30 PM. The title of the show isn't fixed yet, apparently. Sir Adel d...
Here are the winners of the Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT) Season 2. The male "diva" from Cavite, Marcelito Po Moy, was declared grand winner of the PGT Season 2 earlier tonight, June 26, 2011. The results night was held at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. Marcelito Po Moy, a favorite of Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2 judge Kris Aquino, bagged a total of Php 2 Million cash prize.
The second placers were the tap dancing siblings from Libona, Bukidnon, Mindanao - Happy Feet. Happy Feet Bukidnon is composed of the Mata brothers. Third place went to the hip hop dance group Freestylers.
During the performance night Saturday, Marcelito Po Moy sang "The Prayer." Known for his distinct female singing voice, Marcelito showed how adept he was to switch from a female singing voice to a ma...
Did you know that apart from the Vatican, the Philippines is the only remaining country in the whole world that continues to ban divorce? Before May 2011, there were two other countries - the Philippines and Malta, also a predominantly Catholic country like ours. However, Malta legalized divorce via a referendum last May 2011 and that only leaves us Pinoys who live in a country that still does not have divorce (although strictly speaking this is not entirely true since the Muslim community in the Philippines recognizes divorce).
Amidst parliamentary debates on the reproductive health bill and other polarizing issues that affect Filipino families in particular, a women’s sectoral group revived House Bill 1799 that proposes divorce in the Philippines, leaving a hanging question if the Phi...
You heard the theme song. You got intrigued when you heard this - "kaya mo bang mahalin ang isang taong mawawala din sayo?" And, by now, it's likely that you've memorized this line - "Thank you for yesterday. Thank you for today. And if I forget, thank you for tomorrow."
Yes, it seems you're ready to fall in love on June 15, 2011.
KC Concepcion and Sam Milby will topbill one of the most awaited movies of this year, the Star Cinema offering "Forever And A Day." Truth be told, I think this KC Concepcion and Sam Milby starrer is THE most awaited movie here in Mindanao - primarily because they shot this flick in 3 key areas in Mindanao - Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City (who wouldn't be excited to see familiar places? Plus think about what this film will do for Mindanao tou...
A group composed of Mindanaoan Filipino visual artists turned destination wedding photographers, One Happy Story, was recently included in a list composed of the best engagement and most creative wedding photographers in the world.
One Happy Story, a group of young Filipino wedding photographers, was recently included in Love Olio, a hand-selected listing that features only what they call “the most groundbreaking wedding photographers in the world.” Love Olio showcased some of One Happy Story’s best engagement and wedding images.

I must admit that even a few days after my humble Mindanaoan.com blog won as Best Lifestyle Blog for Mindanao in the Philippine Blog Awards 2010, I still am on cloud 9.
While a lot of people have already congratulated me (and I still continue to receive several congratulatory messages until now) and even my ever-supportive Mama has already made plans to have a special tarp printed and displayed (yikes! :D), nothing prepared me for an absolutely wonderful surprise I got yesterday.
November 6, 2010, the very day of a blogging 101 workshop that I organized, was made extra special when someone sent in this video message that did not only make my cheeks burn but make my heart melt as well :)
No less than Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan congratulated me!
Yes, THE Senator Kiko Pangili...
Woke up to sweet and absolutely wonderful piece of news today!
This humble blog - www.Mindanaoan.com - won as Best Lifestyle Blog in the recently concluded Philippine Blog Awards 2010 - Mindanao Division!
Yebah! Woot woot! :D
My warmest, sincerest gratitude to the organizers and sponsors of the Philippine Blog Awards 2010! Thank you for the recognition and may you continue to uplift the blogging community!
And of course, my deepest gratitude to all of my readers and followers! Like I previously mentioned, just the thought of you guys sparing a few minutes of your time each day just to come and visit my little online home brings me so much joy and inspiration. I am humbled.
And to the readers and followers of my two other blogs that were also finalists of the PB...
This caught my attention because it's about a complaint filed against the representation (or misrepresentation) of indigenous peoples or Lumads in the ABS CBN Channel 2 show "Noah" starring Piolo Pascual and Zaijan Jaranilla.
Here in Mindanao, the IP community is a highly respected group and as a Mindanaoan, I feel it is my duty to help advocate for their rights and help suppress discrimination, in whatever form it may be.
Peace advocacy group Mindanao Peoples Caucus said that the primetime telenovela’s portrayal of Lumads as “monkey-like creatures” is a “blatant violation of the mandate of RA No. 8371 to respect, recognize and protect the right of the ICC’s/IP’s to preserve and protect their culture, traditions and institutions.”
The letter-complaint, which was dated October 8...
Before you read this, though, have you read my previous entry? You may want to check out Mindanaoan artist Laarni Lozada's cool makeover (saw her in person during the "Sharon" taping). I must say, it's good to see a Mindanaoan singer doing pretty good in her chosen career and that she's doing well in Manila, too, so it seems. Kudos to Laarni!
Anyways, on to my kuwento about my "Sharon" taping experience. Thanks to Miss Bing, I got passes enough for 5 people to watch the April 18, 2010 taping of Sharon Cuneta's show. Although it wasn't my first time to watch "Sharon," I still felt excited especially since I towed some of my friends along. I was the self-proclaimed ABS CBN complex tour guide of sorts that day --- we went to the cafeteria (where, during my days working in ABS CBN Manila, a...
So the Pinoy Big Brother 2009 PBB Double Up finally conducted its "magical reveal" of this year's housemates last night. Mindanaoan was able to watch parts of the show, which was hosted by Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzales and Mariel Rodriguez.
Thankfully, there are two Mindanaoan housemates this year. One is Melisa Cantiveros from General Santos City and the other is Marielle Sorino, a fellow Dabawenyo. Both are 21 years old. Melisa is dubbed as "Inday Kengkay" and is an aspiring teacher (during her brief interview, she spoke in English...with very good intonation, I must say!) while Marielle is a single mother and admitted to having been "rebellious" before - i.e. she drank and frequently partied and as a consequence, encountered conflicts with her parents especially her mom.
Dreaming of becoming the next Project Runway Philippines (PRP) star fashion designer? Although the first season has yet to formally declare the winner, the auditions for season 2 are up! Here are the first few audition venues:
