The big Spruce 5th anniversary sale and my oh-so-precious loot!

So the first day of the much-awaited and much talked about 5th Anniversary Sale of SPRUCE was an absolute success! Hundreds of Spruce loyalists came and bought...nay, HOARDED...a lot of stuff! I personally overheard a lady who, after she already bought a lot of items, told her husband that she wanted to stay overnight in Cagayan de Oro City (the family was, apparently, from Marawi City) just because the Spruce personnel told her that more stocks were coming. I also saw a guy who already had 4 pairs of PUMA shoes in his shopping basket but was still checking out yet another pair! (Who says guys can't be shopaholics?) As soon as the mall opened, a long line of eager shoppers was already outside the Spruce store. That type of scene was inevitable, truth be told. Spruce, in celeb...

By 2014, Mindanao power deficit will be equivalent to putting out power in 5 major Mindanao cities

The press statement of the upcoming Mindanao Power Summit 2009 alarmed me. It said that "by 2014, projections have it that Mindanao will have a deficit capacity of 484 megawatts which is equivalent to putting out power in the five major cities of Mindanao - Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Butuan, and Cotabato." That means that five years from now, Mindanao will suffer a devastating power crisis and that the situation may reach the most critical state if we do not act fast and act now. The press statement also claimed that the entire Mindanao grid may experience regular rotating brownouts as early as next year (!), especially with the coming in of additional new investments that are anticipated to further deplete the grid’s reserve capacity. The new United States Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, Leslie A. Bassett, will speak during the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 3 which will be held on October 24, 2009 at Pearlmont Inn, Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao. Bassett will represent US Ambassador Kristie Kenney who initially agreed to attend the MBS 3 but had to attend to other pressing matters. The Mindanao Bloggers Summit 3 in CDO will be Bassett's first ever Mindanao trip. Previously, Bassett served as DCM in Mexico. AVON Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk successfully held in Mindanao

My mom and I joined the Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao leg of the AVON Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk for A Cause last Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the kiosk area, Divisoria. The fundraiser, which was participated in by hundreds of ladies (and gents!) all garbed in pink, aimed to push advocacy for women’s health and fitness, breast cancer awareness as well as women’s protection against breast cancer. The walk started at around 6 am. The crowd then reconvened at the kiosk area at around 9 am and a short program was held. There were speakers from hospitals and schools who spoke about the importance of mammography, regular breast check-ups, awareness on the causes and effects of cancer etc. Bands from Xavier University's Soundtable group also performed intermission numbers. CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, MINDANAO - An AVON Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer walk will be held on October 4, 2009 at the Kiosk area, Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City, Northern Mindanao. This fundraiser aims to push advocacy for women's health and fitness as well as women's protection against breast cancer. During the event, which will start at around 6 am, t-shirts will be sold for only P149.00. P20.00 for every shirt will go to the breast cancer fund of the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC). MINDANAO - It's that time of the year once again! Kasalan sa Kagay-an 2009, the Cagayan de Oro City Mindanao leg of the Kasalang Filipino series, is now underway...and guess what? My brother, who's a professional wedding photographer (just like his ate! hehe :D), graphic artist and caricaturist, is one of those who have flyers, leaflets and business cards displayed at the said wedding fair.
