SM Christmas Centerpiece Light Up Ceremony

Along with several CDO Bloggers, I witnessed the launch of the SM ChriSMs campaign and the SM Christmas Centerpiece Light Up Ceremony at SM Cagayan de Oro City last November 12, 2011. This CDO event served as the official launch of the Christmas season in all SM Supermalls around the country. Top regional and local SM officials were on hand to grace the event. Bossa nova singer Sitti Navarro and Mr. Christmas himself - Santa Claus! - were also there. Right after the light up ceremony, a lot of families had their photos taken at the SM CDO centerpiece. New wage increase for Northern Mindanao to take effect July 24, 2011

I'm not really sure if this is good news at all. The National Wages and Productivity Commission has announced that effective July 24, 2011, minimum wage earners in Region X (Northern Mindanao) will get an increase in their daily rate in the amount of...*hold your breath*...*drum roll please*...a whopping (yes, I'm being sarcastic) Php 17.00. Yep, that's seventeen pesos additional per day. That amount is supposed to represent the so-called Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) under Wage RBX-16. I know what you guys are thinking. Some may think "at least there's an increase kesa sa wala na lang," or "that's not fair! Mindanaoans are very hardworking people and they deserve proper pay...definitely more than just seventeen pesos!" Sad to say, Php 17.00 is not even enough to buy one kilo of rice!...

In fact, I wrote about the much-awaited opening last May, along with a job opening announcement for baristas and store managers. Fast forward a few months later, word's out that Starbucks CDO is set to open in just a few weeks' time. Starbucks CDO is located at Limketkai Mall corner Rosario Drive, right across the Missy Bon Bon gelato and bread store and very near Mc Donald's. As expected, they got an ultra prime location. My family and I recently celebrated my brother Ben's birthday by sharing one delicious, special birthday lunch on a Sunday at Kagay-anon Restaurant. One of our brothers, Nathaniel, wasn't around, though, since he's already based in Cebu City but we called him several times all throughout the day so we still strongly felt his presence.
