The term "Kadayawan" is taken from the Mandaya word "madayaw," which is a friendly greeting used to explain something that's good, bountiful, superior or profitable. If you'll be in Davao for the 2012 Kadayawan, you will for sure encounter this word often :)

Kadayawan Festival, which never fails to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to Davao City, is the yearly event where the Davao City tribes all gather and celebrate life, culture, tradition and thank God for the bounties of harvest. Kadayawan Festival Davao City also signals the start of the durian and orchid seasons in Davao! Tourists arriving in Davao City from August 11 to 21, 2011 will be welcomed not only with warm Dabawenyo hospitality but also with one swift, delicious PUNCH! Yes, folks, we welcome tourists with a PUNCH!
Presenting the Davao Punch - a non-alcoholic mix of guava, pomelo and calamansi! Yum, yum, yum!
Yes, yes, it's obviously a play on the recent controversy involving our Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte. For those who still do not know, Mayor Sara garnered a lot of attention after she PUNCHED a sheriff. But hey, doesn't this show the world we Dabawenyos have a sense of humor, too?
Anyways, a chef from the Center for Culinary Studies Davao (CACS Davao) reportedly concocted this delicious drink that obviously has a kick! (thanks to the calamansi!) The Davao Punch was concocted in ...

It's Kadayawan Festival 2011 season in Davao City, Mindanao these days. Unfortunately, if you think you can just take your award-winning photos especially during the Indak Indak sa Kadalanan Parade (street dancing) or the Pamulak (floral float parade) just like that, then you're in for a big surprise.
This year, the Kadayawan Festival 2011 organizers (Duaw Davao Festival Foundation) have drawn new guidelines for...hold your breath...an access pass.
Something pretty similar to what the Sinulog organizers in Cebu have done/are doing. I'm not sure if Davao is ready for this, though. Anyways, please read and kindly share your comments/thoughts about this below:

Fans of rumored presidentiable Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte will love the picture in this Mindanaoan blog entry. Opposition Sen. Chiz Escudero was one of the main guests of Mayor Rody during festivities marking the city’s Kadayawan Festival 2009 last August 22, 2009. Judging by the happy smiles on the faces of these two popular political personalities, do you think this is a sign of an alliance to come? WHAT DO YOU THINK?
In his visits to Mindanao, by the way, Escudero has repeatedly called for increased investments by government in agriculture and infrastructure to maximize the island’s economic potential.
The City of Davao is geared up for this year’s celebration of the Kadayawan Festival. As city streets have already been adorned with colorful buntings and streamers, the 2009 Kadayawan Festival Executive Committee - headed by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte along with private sector co-chair Lorenzo Te, Jr. - has lined up an exciting calendar of events for this year’s celebration.
This year’s theme, “Naghiusang Katawhan Nakigdait sa Kalibutan” (“One People in Communion with the Earth”), fittingly responds to the need of the times as Dabawenyos are reminded of their responsibilities towards Mother Earth. As Davao’s indigenous tribes have deemed the earth as the core of their existence, they have also maintained a special connection to the earth which is also the source of the life, livi...
I can already smell the protests courtesy of animal welfare advocates. Horse fights (also known as "Paaway Kuda"), which are part of the culture of indigenous peoples, will be revived in this year's Kadayawan Festival 2009 celebration. Horse fight competitions will be staged from August 17 to 23, 2009 during the 2009 Kadayawan in Davao City, Mindanao. I bet the people behind the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and other animal welfare organizations can't wait to travel to Davao and condemn the "cruel" competitions.
Recently, the Davao City Council Committee on Lumads (Indigenous Peoples), led by Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, revealed that the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) has approved the staging of horse fights during the Kadayawan Festival.
In a horse f...
